A Discipline-Wise Study Plan for the NEC Registration Exam

No two engineering disciplines weight their syllabus the same way, so a one-size-fits-all timetable leaves marks on the table. The most efficient NEC preparation starts from your discipline's own subject weightage and works outward.

Start from subject weightage

List every examinable subject in your discipline and rank them by how many questions they typically contribute. Spend the most time on the heaviest subjects — a small accuracy gain in a high-weightage area is worth more than perfection in a rare one.

Planning a discipline-wise NEC study schedule

Map subjects to weeks

Once your subjects are ranked, assign them to weeks so heavier subjects get more time and earlier slots — that leaves room to revisit them before the exam.

Example: an eight-week skeleton

  • Weeks 1–3: your three highest-weightage subjects, one per week with practice sets.
  • Weeks 4–5: mid-weight subjects, paired two per week.
  • Week 6: lighter subjects and any backlog.
  • Weeks 7–8: full mock tests plus targeted revision of weak areas.

Adjust as your data comes in

A plan is a hypothesis, not a contract. After each week, look at your accuracy by chapter and shift time toward the topics where you're actually losing marks. NEC Prep computes this weakness breakdown for you, so you don't have to guess.

Keep momentum with small wins

Consistency beats intensity. Thirty focused minutes every day compounds faster than an occasional marathon session. Tick off each day on a study calendar and let the streak carry you.
