High-Yield Topics and Chapter Weightage for the NEC Exam

When exam time is limited, what you choose NOT to over-study matters as much as what you focus on. High-yield topics are the chapters that appear most often and reward preparation most reliably. Prioritising them is the single biggest lever on your score.

What makes a topic high-yield?

A high-yield topic combines two things: it contributes many questions, and those questions are answerable with solid fundamentals rather than obscure edge cases. Foundational subjects almost always qualify.

How to find them in your syllabus

Work through past patterns and count how often each chapter shows up. On NEC Prep the question bank is already tagged by chapter, so you can see at a glance which chapters are deepest and practise them directly.

Reviewing high-yield chapters for the NEC exam

A simple prioritisation rule

  • Tier 1 — heavy and foundational: master these first and keep them warm.
  • Tier 2 — moderate weight: reach a solid pass level, then move on.
  • Tier 3 — rare or highly specialised: skim for awareness only.

Don't neglect your weak high-yield chapters

The worst combination is a high-weightage chapter you're weak in — it quietly drains marks. Use your accuracy data to find these overlaps and attack them first; the return on effort is enormous.

Revisit, don't just review

High-yield topics deserve spaced repetition. Touch them at least twice more before the exam, each time with fresh questions, so recall stays fast under pressure.
